Border Cantos

June 14, 2016

We recently completed a series of films for Border Cantos, a collaboration between photographer Richard Misrach and composer Guillermo Galindo. The project premiered at the San Jose Museum of Art (SJMA) before touring nationally.

Our team handled the editing and post-production for the video installations. The challenge was to sync Misrach’s haunting visual landscapes with Galindo’s “Sonic Border”; a score performed entirely on instruments handcrafted from found objects collected at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In the series of musical films, we focused on the percussive, ritualistic nature of the performance. The edit serves as a bridge between the static power of photography and the raw, avant-garde energy of the musical compositions.
