AdWeek coverage on Cannes all week long: http://www.adweek.com/cannes

Of course, one of the world’s most notable film festivals must have an award that leaves people at a loss for words–difficult to define, nearly impossible to categorize, and guaranteed to blow other awards out of the water.

    Harmony and Me
Justin Rice is one-part Bishop Allen, one part actor with naturally hilarious mannerisms. Follow along as he gets over a girl in the only way he knows how: quite awkwardly.

    The Bicycle Thief
This movie is some depressing shit. You’ll love it!

    Saxondale
Tommy Saxondale is a retired roadie who struggles with the monotony of everyday life while reminiscing about the glory days and botching every social encounter he has. This is British comedy at its best.

    Do the Right Thing
This film starts out innocent enough, but slowly shifts into a tailspin of anger and violence as it catalogues the relationships and tension between the residents of a Brooklyn neighborhood.

    Trailer Park Boys
This mockumentary — which features an entire trailer park full of quirky characters — was a huge smash in Canada. Thanks to Netflix, we yanks can enjoy it too.

  • CASSINI MISSION // Chris Abbas

    June 9, 2011

Get ready to either cry, laugh or crap your pants in awe. This video was produced by piecing together thousands of photos from the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft, which has been photographing Saturn and its moons since late 2004. Every frame of this video is a real-life photograph from space. Have fun trying to wrap your head around this awesomeness!

  • Move over, Indy

According to BBC News, Dr. Sarah Parcak and a team of researchers have discovered seventeen pyramids, along with more than 1,000 tombs and 3,000 ancient settlements in Egypt. Why have these sites gone undiscovered for so many years? Well, that’s because they’re all underground.

    image

Using infra-red satellite imaging, Parcak and her team were able to look below the surface of the Earth and explore past civilizations that have been buried in silt by the Nile. Initial excavations have already confirmed some of the findings, including two suspected pyramids. This means that in the future, archaeologists will be able to locate their ideal excavation sites prior to digging, rather than the current method of plotting a random-ass piece of land and hoping for the best.

  • Spotlight: Amon Tobin // ISAM

    June 7, 2011

    image

Amon Tobin is no newcomer to the experimental electronic music scene. Signed to Ninja Tune since the 90s, he has surfaced as a prominent and consistently innovative producer. Tobin has composed music for notable films and video games from The Italian Job to Splinter Cell. The London-based artist just released his latest album, a 12-track endeavor entitled ISAM. The album is enticing, it’s sci-fi, it’s eerie and provocative. It puts you at ease with its organic sound while seizing your attention through powerful beats. The album feels gritty and dark but also melodic and sensual. Check ISAM out here; you won’t be disappointed.
