The Power Within

June 2, 2011

If you’ve ever doubted the growing power of online video, here’s some proof of its imminent Internet domination.

This March, comScore Inc, which provides timely data used for measuring the digital world, put out a press release highlighting United States online video viewing statistics for February 2011. Their data showed that 170 million people watched online video and averaged 13.6 hours a month, with a total number of viewing sessions amounting to over 5 billion. Google sites like YouTube were at the top in terms of total unique viewers, number of viewing sessions, and average minutes per user. Following Google were sites like VEVO, Facebook, AOL, and Hulu. ComScore also calculated big numbers in the realm of video advertisements, with Hulu reigning at over 1.1 billion ads.

So what do all these numbers tell us? Video is making a huge impact on the way we access information via the Internet. Television is becoming less and less relevant as we witness the establishment of HD streaming services like Netflix (which, according to VentureBeat, accounts for about 20% of online video traffic), iTunes and Hulu. Both big corporations and small start-ups have begun to capitalize on the marketing power of online video not only for direct advertisements, but also for conveying important messages and updates in a clear and engaging way. Here at Sprinkle Lab the aim is to inject our aesthetic and technical expertise into the marketing campaigns of innovative companies, so viewers like you can enjoy an uplifting and educating video experience.
